August 2, 2010 - Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter Sandcastle Contest - On Atlantic Beach, determined sandcastle building teams work to create a vision in authentic sand. Creations are built all day where many gather in anticipation to discover the outcome of each sandcastle and determine the winner of the reign of Best Built Sandcastle. Every Saturday evening - Summer Concert Series - Sponsored by the Morehead City Parks & Recreation Department, brings a free concert each summer Saturday evening 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at the Jaycee Park, 9th and Shepard Streets in downtown Morehead City, NC. For more information call (252)726-5083.

August 7 - 8, 2010 - Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival - Annual festival at Sneads Ferry Community Center, Park Lane. Parade starts at 10am Sat., festival opens 11am Sat., noon Sun. Shrimp-a-roo, carnival, arts & crafts, fireworks and live bands. Admission $3 adults, under 12 free. For more information call (910) 327-2707.

August 13 - 14, 2010 - Beaufort Pyrate Invasion - Locations: Beaufort Historic Site, Beaufort Waterfront, Maritime Museum. Invasion will begin at 1:30 on the Beaufort Waterfront. After invasion, those captured will be marched to the Beaufort Historic Site for a mock trial. Buchaneer's Ball will be held Saturday night at 7:00. Tickets to food events will be available at Beaufort Trading Co., Tierra Fina, Scuttlebutt, Curves, Martha's Hot Shop in downtown Beaufort - cash or check only, please. August 16, 2010 - Pickin' on the Pamlico - This event celebrates famous and delicious Blue Crab and summertime in beautiful eastern North Carolina! Collect your friends & family and join us as we celebrate on the banks of the Pamlico River! Enjoy all the fresh NC steamed crabs & shrimp you can eat, listen to live music, & enjoy a beautiful sunset. 138 South Market St., Washington, NC, next to the NC Estuarium on the Washington waterfront from 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM, 35.00/ticket/person. August 19, 2010 - Beach Jive After Five - 5:30-7:30pm. Enjoy live music and the tranquil ocean breeze. Bring chairs, blankets, even dinner! Access also features volleyball courts, picnic tables and restrooms. Alcoholic beverages prohibited. Western Ocean Regional Access (WORA) in Emerald Isle. August 26 - 28, 2010 - New Bern Art & Wine Festival - Come enjoy fine art and wine at the New Bern Art & Wine Festival! This three day event is a sanctioned New Bern 300th Anniversary Celebration event being held at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center and at other venues in historic downtown New Bern. Friday, August 27 will include a Gala Auction of art and wine with a Grand Tasting being held on Saturday. Admission is $50 per person.
